I’m officially a college girl at Michigan State University! My first week just ended, and honestly it went by super slow. I like it here and I’m excited for college, but honestly I’m a little homesick and I feel like if I had the chance to go home, at least for a little bit, I’d do it. I miss my PUPPIES!!!
I think the first week of classes went well. Since they started on Wednesday, we only had three days worth, but I still got kind of a lot of homework! I think that’ll be the hardest part about school.
This semester I’m taking media, math, writing and Spanish classes. The media and math classes are in big lecture halls filled with a TON of students. I think the big classes are kind of cool, but the smaller classes (my writing and Spanish classes only have like 20ish students in them, smaller than my high school classes!) are nice for less distractions and getting to know the professor.
Speaking of professors, so far it looks like mine will be really nice and helpful. My writing professor seems really cool and funny, and my Spanish teacher, while he mainly speaks in Spanish and wants us to too, is really nice and helpful.
Sometimes I dread going to class because I’m tired, would rather be doing other things and don’t know many people besides a few friends, but when I get to class, I don’t dread it anymore, haha so I think I’ll enjoy these classes this semester. I’m probably not gonna enjoy the exams and quizzes, (we have more exams in one semester than we did all year in high school!) but I don’t think anyone really does.
Since the campus is so big, I’ve been biking EVERYWHERE. Whether it’s to see my friends, go eat or go to class, I hardly ever walk long distances. And my legs are so sore. Especially because my bike is 50 years old and only has one speed, so the hills are awful. But we figured it’d be better to take up an old one than my nice bike, so just as long as I only hit my friends with it, I think it’ll be okay! Besides, it was only her tire I hit;)
I think the thing I like most about college so far, besides the food (the vegan chocolate cake^^^ is sooooooo good; I had three slices yesterday…but their tiny, so it’s okay:) is that I’m so close to two of my best friends. Well, they’re not close to me on campus, but at least we’re going to the same school! I get to see them all the time; we hang out together more than we did in high school! One of them has spent the last three nights at my dorm lol. And one of them and I are trying to move in together because we think it’ll help me to become better adjusted to living away from home, so we’ll see each other all the time then.
I’m thinking of joining a few clubs or IM sports this year, but I’m not sure which ones yet. This week there was an event with all the clubs, so freshmen could see all the ones they could join, but there were SO MANY. And they say only do a few so you don’t get overwhelmed. I’m also trying to decide if I should audition for the dance club or maybe join IM tennis. But since my classes end so late (7:50, three days a week), there are a lot I won’t be able to go to.
And now, to round out a week of new places and new things, today was my first time doing laundry here! I’ve done my own laundry at home since middle school, but doing it in a busy, tiny room with only four washers and dryers is a much different experience. And the only washer and dryer I’ve ever used are the ones we have at home, so figuring out how to use these was a little hard. I also only did one load because it took a while and I didn’t feel like going all the way back down to the basement again, plus I was STARVING, so I had to take a break and eat.
Right now I’m sitting in the dining hall in my dorm neighborhood, writing this and listening to music because there are some really loud people sitting by me. It sounded like they were tutoring, but it also sounds like they’re having relationship issues…. I finished eating a while ago, but it’s in between lunch and dinner, so there wasn’t much open. But dinner starts in 21 minutes!!! so I might eat in a little while again.
I’ll see you next week with another post!
Peace out and GO GREEN!
